Flicker Super 8 Film Festival explores identity, advertising, kinetic typography, videography, and interactive design. This exhibition is meant to celebrate Alabama creatives, being hosted in the heart of one of the state’s most urban areas and drawing its’ name & color palette from the state bird: the Northern Flicker. This festival is unique in that it only allows entries shot on Super 8 film, with content reflecting the creator’s own personal experience of a winter in the south. The beauty of Super 8 is that it will bring focus to the narrative rather than being concerned with high-definition quality and over-the-top theatrics. This festival hopes to bring awareness to a near-dead format and revenue to a growing arts community in downtown Birmingham, catering to anyone in and around the area interested in film.
